#CMT# #/CMT# Producing block copolymer containing polyarylene ether and polyalkylene oxide blocks, comprises reacting a hydroxy group-terminated polyarylene ether with a monomeric alkylene oxide. #CMT# : #/CMT# Independent claims are also included for: (1) the block copolymer, preferably a triblock copolymer containing polyalkylene oxide-poly(aryl ether)-polyalkylene oxide-block, which is obtainable by the above method; (2) a molding composition comprising at least one block copolymer (1-60 wt.%, based on the molding composition); and (3) a membrane comprising the block copolymer or the molding composition. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The block copolymer or the molding composition is useful for preparing coatings, films, fibers, moldings, and/or membranes (claimed). #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The method makes use of the starting materials having simple structure, which are easily obtainable. #CMT#ORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Method: The method includes initially producing the hydroxy-terminated polyarylene ether and carrying out the reaction with the monomeric alkylene oxide. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a solvent, preferably an N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone-containing solvent. Preferred Components: The monomeric alkylene oxide is ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, 1,2-butylene oxide, 2,3-butylene oxide, 1,2-pentene oxide, and/or 2,3-pentene oxide. #CMT#POLYMERS : #/CMT# Preferred Components: The ratio molecular weight and number-average molecular weight of the block copolymer, preferably the tri-block copolymer is 1.5-3 determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The block polymer is a tri-block copolymer having a molecular weight of 10000-90000 g/mole measured by GPC. The block copolymer has a viscosity number of 15-100 measured in a 1% solution of N-methyl-pyrrolidone at 25[deg] C according to DIN EN ISO 1628-1. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Polyarylene ethers with terminal hydroxyl groups (prepared by nucleophilic aromatic polycondensation of dichlorodiphenylsulfone (287.08 g), bisphenol-A (249.42 g) in presence of potassium carbonate (potash) (148.58 g) dissolved in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (476 ml), maintaining this mixture at 190[deg] C for 6 hours, diluting by adding N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (1500 ml), cooling, separating the solid components by filtration) (500 g) was introduced into a reactor. Then the polymer solution was ethoxylated by ethylene oxide (47.5 g) for 10 minutes and stirred at 120[deg] C for 10 hours. Then the residual ethylene oxide was removed by introducing nitrogen, to obtain the block copolymer. |
