PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element that has a structure for specifying a light emission direction and that is suitable for making a pixel fine and high in density, and to provide a stereoscopic image display device having the light-emitting element.SOLUTION: A light-emitting element 1 is configured by laminating a p-type semiconductor layer 21, a light-emitting layer 22, and an n-type semiconductor layer 23 in this order. The light-emitting element 1 includes: a light-emitting structure part 2 having a p-side electrode 24 and an n-side electrode 25; and an emission direction specifying part 3 provided at a part of the n-type semiconductor layer 23 or an upper surface of the n-type semiconductor layer 23, and having a structure 3a for specifying a direction of light emitted from the light-emitting structure part 2. In addition, the carrier mobility of the n-type semiconductor layer 23 is larger than that of the p-type semiconductor layer 21, and a re-coupling time of carriers is shorter than an alleviation time for supplementing the carriers. The p-side electrode 24 is provided immediately under the structure 3a so as to be contacted with a part of a lower surface of the p-type semiconductor layer 23, and light is emitted from a light-emitting region 22a of the light-emitting layer 22 that is a region immediately above a contact region between the p-side electrode 24 and the p-type semiconductor layer 21. |
