PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a metal roll including a plurality of gas introduction passages near an outer circumferential surface of the metal roll, by which the metal roll can be manufactured with a high working precision without using a gun drill.SOLUTION: There is provided the method of manufacturing a metal roll which includes a first cylindrical part 1 including a rotary shaft and a second cylindrical part 2 having an inner circumferential surface contacting an outer circumferential surface of the first cylindrical part 1. The method includes the steps of; forming on an outer circumferential surface side of the cylindrical part 1, a plurality of grooves 1a which extend in a rotary shaft direction over the entire circumference at a nearly equal interval; shrinkage-fitting the first cylindrical part 1 in which the plurality of groove 1a are formed into the second cylindrical part 2; joining the shrinkage-fitted first cylindrical part 1 and second cylindrical part 2 using laser welding or electron beam welding; cutting if necessary the outer circumferential surface of the second cylindrical part 2, and then forming a gas emission hole group 5 in each of a plurality of gas passages defined by the plurality of grooves 1a and the inner circumferential surface of the second cylindrical part 2, the gas emission hole group 5 being opened to the outer circumferential surface side of the second cylindrical part 2. |
