<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that correctly detects blank paper even if a streak occurs within an image due to floating dust.SOLUTION: An image reader comprises: image reading means configured to read a document conveyed by automatic document feed and passed through a reading position on the glass surface of a document platen; streak detecting means for detecting occurrence of a streak within a read image, resulting from occurrence of streak on the glass of the document platen based on a pixel signal output from the image reading means; and blank paper detecting means configured to determine whether a document read by the pixel signal output from the image reading means is blank paper or not. Before the result of the streak detection by the streak detecting means is acquired, a plurality of blank paper determination processes are performed by the blank paper detecting means. After the acquisition of the result of the streak detection by the streak detecting means, it is determined which one should be employed among the plurality of results of blank paper determination processes by the blank paper detecting means.</p> |
