DIGITAL MEDIA DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM AND METHOD

A system and method employs an online site for making stored digital video recordings available for selection and download to a wireless communications device. Upon receipt of a selection for a digital video recording, the system and method causes the selected digital video recording to be wirelessly transmitted to the wireless communications device. The selected digital video recording is also made available to a personal computer associated with the user who made the selection. At least a title of the selected digital video recording is stored in a personal storage account of the user.

1. A system comprising:
a source of digital media recordings; a mobile communications device, wherein said mobile communications device is used by a user and comprises an operating system, a memory, a wireless transmitter, a wireless receiver, and a digital media player; an account of the user, wherein said account enables the user to acquire digital media recordings from said source and to access with said mobile communications device a directory comprising at least titles of a plurality of digital media recordings that have been acquired by the user; and wherein, when the user acquires a digital media recording from said source using said mobile communications device, said system enables (i) download at that time of a complete copy of said acquired digital media recording to said memory of said mobile communications device, and (ii) the user to use said mobile communications device to select, as an alternative to having a complete copy of said acquired digital media recording downloaded at that time to said memory of said mobile communications device, to have the acquired digital media recording available for subsequent transmission from the source to said mobile communications device.
