PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce undesirable movement of a continuous web of imaging material in a printing machine.SOLUTION: One or more inkjet printheads deposit ink on a continuous web 106 of imaging material which is supported by rollers disposed along a transport path. An air film device 130, 132 is disposed between rollers to stabilize flatness of the transported web 106 during printing. Undesirable dynamic movement of the web 106 toward or away from the printheads resulting from fluttering, troughing or catenary sag of the web 106 is reduced to minimize ink drop placement error in both cross-process and process directions.
