PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thread holding mechanism of a sewing machine, a thread insertion device of the sewing machine and the sewing machine which can perform a thread guard work safely and smoothly, and can hold the thread with tense state.SOLUTION: A thread holding mechanism A3 of a sewing machine holding thread supplied from a thread resource has a thread holding unit 30 holding one end of the supplied thread and a thread cramp unit 33 consisted integrally with the thread holding unit 30 and provided between the thread holding part 30 and the thread resource. A thread guard unit 13a that another end of the thread can be hung is provided in the thread resource side. The thread cramp unit 33 contacts with the thread by dropping the thread holding unit 30 lower than the thread guard unit 13a.
