摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer or the like capable of accurately detecting the width dimension of a printing medium even in a case in which a side end detector nonlinearly moves in a device width direction to detect the side end of the printing medium.SOLUTION: A printer includes a carriage movement part which moves a carriage with respect to a printing medium on a feed path surface from a carriage reference position, a side end detector which is provided in the carriage and nonlinearly moves into a device width direction orthogonal to a feed direction from a detection reference position to detect the side end of the printing medium, and a calculation part which calculates the width dimension of the printing medium. The calculation part calculates the detection movement distance from a drive amount at the time at which the side end detector detects the side end of the printing medium by referring to distance calculation data indicating the detection movement distance being the movement distance of the side end detector from the detection reference position in the device width direction with respect to the drive amount of the carriage movement part at the time at which the carriage moves from the carriage reference position, and calculates the width dimension of the printing medium on the basis of the calculated detection movement distance.</p>
