<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for obtaining a ROP-based block copolymer preparation by the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic organic monomer using an organocatalyst system.SOLUTION: A ROP process comprises: contacting a cyclic carbonate monomer, first and second cyclic components, at least one catalyst and at least one initiator to polymerize the cyclic carbonate monomer, the first and second cyclic component simultaneously or sequentially in no particular order to form a block copolymer resin; and then collecting the block copolymer resin; wherein the polymerization are carried out under atmospheric conditions and under neat conditions, in a single vessel. The catalyst comprises two components of a nucleophilic transesterification system: 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP) and DMAP:HX, wherein HX is selected from the group consisting of HCl, HBr, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, formic acid, acetic acid, trifluoroacetic acid, trichloroacetic acid, trifluoro methane sulfonic acid or combinations thereof.</p> |
