The present invention provides an anode active material comprising a polycrystalline lithium manganese oxide and a coating layer containing sodium on the surface of the polycrystalline lithium manganese oxide, and a method for manufacturing the anode active material. The anode active material according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises the coating layer containing sodium on the surface of the polycrystalline lithium manganese oxide, thereby preventing direct contact between the polycrystalline lithium manganese oxide and an electrolyte solution and thus preventing a side reaction between the anode active material and the electrolyte solution. In addition, tap density, life characteristics, and charge/discharge capacity characteristics of a secondary battery can be improved by resolving the problems of Jahn-Teller distortion and of elution of Mn2+ by structurally stabilizing the lithium manganese oxide. |
