PURPOSE:To improve the polarization degree of a polarizing film which is colored by using a dichromatic dye and is stretched by irradiating light polarized perpendicularly to the stretching direction of the polarizing film to said film. CONSTITUTION:The orientation of polymer molecules is not uniform even with the stretched film and randomly oriented parts remain therein. The dichromatic dye fixed to said part is the major cause for the decrease of the polarization degree. The decomposition or reorientation of the dye molecules oriented in directions except the stretching direction is made possible by irradiating the light polarized perpendicularly to the stretching direction, by which the effective means for improving the polarization degree is obtd. More specifically, this methods consists in irradiating the light polarized perpendicularly to the stretching direction of the polarizing film to the polarizing film which is colored by the dichromatic dye and is stretched.
