PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for manufacturing a glass preform capable of preventing a transparentized glass preform from having a downwardly swollen shape, while suppressing increase of manufacturing cost or decline of the operation rate of a sintering furnace without complicating the manufacturing method.SOLUTION: A manufacturing apparatus of a glass preform is used for obtaining transparent glass by sintering a porous glass preform 2 formed by accumulating glass fine particles and having a taper part 2a on a lower part in the supported state in a furnace core tube so that its center axis is faced to the vertical direction. The manufacturing apparatus includes a tapered heat reflection surface 31a formed so as to face to a taper surface 2b of the taper part 2a, on a lower part 3a of the furnace core tube. |
