PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxygen consumption electrodes which is used especially in chloro-alkali electrolysis, has good performance, is stable during transportation and storage and operates quickly.SOLUTION: In a method of producing a sheet-like oxygen consumption electrode, the electrode contains a conductive support, a gas diffusion layer and a layer containing a siver-based catalyst, and the support is coated with an electrolytic catalyst and a silver oxide-containing mixture of a hydrophobic material and is formed with a silver oxide-containing sheet-like structure as an intermediate. The silver oxide-containing sheet-like structure is reduced electrochemically in an aqueous electrolyte solution at a pH of at least 10 in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide, especially sodium hydroxide, and the aqueous electrolyte solution is removed thoroughly from the electrode obtained. |
