摘要 <p>The present invention provides a system for correcting absolute position of a vehicle and a method thereof of which in order to recognize surrounding situation of the vehicle, it uses a system that may be capable of mass production and also use landmark information values that can be acquired by a surrounding sensor for the vehicle which can correct and complement errors in absolute position information of the vehicle received from a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. Therefore, it comprises a GPS unit that collects the GPS coordinates, a database unit that saves the absolute coordinates of the landmarks, a surrounding sensor unit which calculates the distance from the landmark to the location of the vehicle, and a control operation unit that calculates the corrected coordinates of the vehicle by using the distance and azimuth between the landmark and the vehicle, the GPS coordinates of the vehicle and the absolute coordinate of the landmark.
