<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens which is compact, keeps variation of imaging magnification due to wobbling small, and offers a reduced load on a focus drive system by reducing weight of a focusing group, in particular, of the lens system.SOLUTION: A zoom lens includes, in order from the object side, a first lens group G1 having positive refractive power, a second lens group G2 having negative refractive power, a third lens group G3 having positive refractive power, a fourth lens group G4 having negative refractive power, and a fifth lens group G5 having negative refractive power. The lens groups move such that a distance between the second lens group and the third lens group becomes smaller when zooming from the wide-angle end to the telephoto end, while the fourth lens group moves toward an image plane side when shifting focus from infinity to an object at a short distance.
