PURPOSE:To improve local corrosion resistance, by specifying a composition and adding specific amounts of Mo and Ni in a Ti-Al-V alloy. CONSTITUTION:The Ti alloy has a composition consisting of, by weight, 3-8% Al, 0.1-3% V, 0.1-3% Mo, 0.1-2% Ni, and the balance Ti. This Ti alloy combines high strength with high toughness, and, even if exposed under a high- temp. environment of high chlorine-ion concentration, it hardly causes local corrosion such as crevice corrosion and produces excellent properties. In the above composition, when V content exceeds 3%, hydrogen embrittleness occurs in an aqueous solution. Moreover, though Mo has a function of improving strength and corrosion resistance, the desired effects cannot be obtained when its content is less than 0.1%, while workability is deteriorated when it exceeds 3%. Further, Ni improves strength as well as local corrosion resistance by coexistence with Mo, but the desired effects cannot be obtained when Ni content is less than 0.1% and, when it exceeds 2%, toughness and workability are deteriorated.
