PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicon oxide, as an active material effective as a negative electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a high initial charge/discharge efficiency and cycle characteristics better than conventional, while maintaining a high battery capacity and low volume expansion coefficient, and to provide a production method therefor, and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a negative electrode using this silicon oxide.SOLUTION: A silicon oxide for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery negative electrode is obtained by hydrolyzing and then calcining a three-dimensional mesh terminal chlorine sealing polysilane, obtained by reducing tetrachlorosilane with magnesium or a magnesium alloy. |
