<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an externally driven rewritable recording medium that has a high image holding property and image quality and that can perform high-speed recording.SOLUTION: A recording medium comprises a first substrate, a second substrate, and an image recording layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate. The image recording layer has insulation properties and includes: electrophoretic particles and/or magnetophoretic particles; dispersion media; and a plurality of cells or microcapsules in which a thermoreversible gelling agent is encapsulated.
