1. A method for periodically accessing a hardware resource of a computer, comprising:
periodically generating an interrupt via a timer internal to the computer; scheduling an interpreter that runs in the context of the operating system to execute in response to the interrupt; and executing, with the interpreter, instructions associated with the interrupt and provided in firmware of the computer to access a hardware resource of the computer for which the operating system lacks a device driver.
