PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition improved in practical performances by improving its flame retardancy, tensile strength, elongation, inhibition of whitening, acid resistance, etc., by mixing a thermoplastic polymer with a hydroxide and a carbonate of Al, Mg or the like and a specified boron compound. CONSTITUTION:This self-extinguishing polymer composition is prepared by mixing 100 pts.wt. mixture comporising 70-20wt.% thermoplastic polymer (A) such as polyethylene and 30-80wt.% hydroxide of Al and/or Mg or a mixture (B) thereof with at most 30wt.% MgCO3 with 0.01-10 pts.wt. boron compound (C) of the formula [wherein q is 0 or 1, and when q is 1, A is -(X)e-(Y)m-(Zn)- group, p is 10-1000, X and Z are each an oxyhydrocarbon group having one terminal ether group (the total number of the carbon atoms is 100), Y is -OOC-R- CO-(wherein R<1> is a 2-13C hydrocarbon group, and l, m and n are each 0 or 1].
