<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that when a recording head is mounted and fixed to a head holder, it is preferable to simplify effort and reduce the number of manufacturing steps required for measuring discharge characteristics and adjusting and fixing the position of the head. <P>SOLUTION: The recording head is fixed to a head support member that supports the same temporary position. A nozzle or a reference mark is photographed to detect a position. Ink is discharged from a nozzle different from the reference mark or the nozzle to detect the flight characteristics of an ink droplet. An ink landing position on a recording medium is estimated based on the position of the reference mark and the flight characteristics. The position of the recording head is adjusted relative to the head support member such that the estimated ink landing position coincides with an ink landing position obtained by calculation.
