PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus in which a reading unit is small-sized by turning back an optical path from a document surface to an image forming part. ! SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus 100 includes a light receiving part 5 for receiving a light flux from the document surface, and an image forming part 6 for guiding the light flux from the document surface to the light receiving part 5. The image reading apparatus 100 further includes: a first reflection part 40a that turns back the light flux from the document surface multiple times in such a manner that an angle formed with a normal direction of the document surface becomes equal to or larger than 45°; and a second reflection part 40b that turns back a light flux from the first reflection part 40a multiple times in such a manner that an angle formed with the normal line becomes smaller than 45°, and guides the light flux to the image forming part 6.
