Disclosed is an envelope content splitting (ECS) technology, including systems and methods, which can enable secure sending, retrieving and updating of emails. In addition, users of the ECS technology can register with a content server for obtaining a password that can be used to provide the user with access to the content server, including for storing, retrieving and updating content stored on the content server.

1. A non-transitory computer program product storing instructions, which, when executed by at least one data processor, causes the at least one data processor to perform operations comprising:
sending an electronic message from a mail client, the electronic message including message content, including
facilitating determination of a first user's permission for content server access;sending the message content to the content server for storage;receiving a pointer at the mail client, the pointer configured to effect retrieval of the message content by a second user;inserting the pointer into a header of the electronic message at the mail client; andsending the electronic message with the header to the second user.
