The present invention relates to a display device and a method for operating the same. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the display device includes: a display panel that includes a plurality of pixels, a plurality of gate lines arranged in the direction of rows, and a plurality of data lines overlapped with the gate lines; a data driving unit which transmits data voltages to the data lines; a gate driving unit which transmits gate signals to the gate lines; and a signal control unit which controls the data driving unit and the gate driving unit. The signal control unit includes: a vertical boundary determination unit which determines whether a first pixel is located near a boundary of an image pattern based on an input image signal with respect to the first signal amount the pixels; and a first correction unit that corrects the image signal of the first pixel and outputs the corrected image signal based on second pixel, located on a previous row of the first pixel, and the image signal of the first pixel when the first pixel is located near the boundary of the image pattern as a determination result of the vertical boundary determination unit.
