<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tracking device and method capable of highly accurately detecting occurrence of erroneous tracking when performing tracking based on a feature of a tracking target. <P>SOLUTION: A tracking device for tracking the position of a tracking target in a moving image executes processing for tracking a subject using feature information of the tracking target for a current processing target frame image to thereby detect a tracking target position at this time, extracts an image between the tracking target position at this time and a tracking target position at the last time from the processing target frame image, and determines whether a tracking target position detected based on similarity between the extracted image and the feature information is outside the tracking target.
