The vertical wind turbine has the impeller partially enclosed by a quarter to a fifth segment screen. This screen is freely movable about the rotor axis. The screen (2) is mechanically, electromechanically or pneumatically connected to a weather vane (3) and a side plate (8) can be attached by a telescopic arm (9) to act as an efficiency optimiser.
