<p>The device has a compartment (1) including gas inlets (2a, 2b), a gas outlet (3), and a flow rate measuring unit for measuring flow rate of gas in the compartment. The measuring unit includes a rotary element e.g. rotary wheel, to be rotated by a gas stream passing through the compartment. A Hall effect sensor (6) cooperates with the rotary element for counting the number of revolutions of the rotary element for a given duration. An electronic controller (9) determines the velocity of the gas flow from the number of revolutions of the rotary element for the given duration. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring consumption of gas e.g. air or oxygen, by a patient in a hospital.</p> |
