<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the favorable surface roughness of a vertical cutting insert for milling even if a use condition such as tool feed is raised and flanks of sub-cutting edges are damaged. <P>SOLUTION: The vertical indexable cutting insert uses side faces 4 as rake faces, long sides of the side faces as main cutting edges 6, upper faces 2 or lower faces 3 as flanks of the main cutting edges, short sides of the side faces 4 as sub-cutting edges 7, and a part of each side face 5 as the flank of the sub-cutting edge. The vertical indexable cutting insert is constituted so that the short sides of the side faces 4 are bilaterally asymmetric, and a part of each short side is used as the sub-cutting edge 7. The sub-cutting edges 7 are protruded to the length direction of the main cutting edge from a part remaining at the short side in a side-face view of the insert, and continued to tips of the main cutting edges 6 via a nose R part 8 of a bending radius R1, and the center between the two side faces 4, 4 in a parallel arrangement of the end faces 5 is formed of a flat first face which is located in a position lower than the sub-cutting edges 7. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT</p> |
