PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet-like porous carbon material that can be obtained by processing a wood pulp-based cellulose sheet and favorably used for various applications such as a fuel cell gas diffusion layer.SOLUTION: There is provided a sheet-like carbon material that is obtained by making a wood cellulosic sheet absorb an organic sulfonic acid and carbonizing the resulting product at a temperature of 500°C-3200°C in an inert gas atmosphere, and that has an average fiber length of 0.1-5 mm, an average fiber diameter of 0.1-40 μm, and a carbon content of 80% or more. There are also provided a gas diffusion layer for a fuel cell, a catalyst carrier, a gas occlusion and adsorption material, an endotherm and heat radiation material, a filter, and a composite material which comprise the sheet-like carbon material; a fuel cell comprising the gas diffusion layer or the catalyst carrier; and a method for producing the sheet-like carbon material. |
