1. A kinematic state machine comprising:
a first rigid body with a first surface, which first surface defines a first coordinate function; a second rigid body with a second surface, which second surface defines a second coordinate function; a switch with a switch geometry; wherein the first and second bodies have an allowed range of motion relative to one another and, together, form a composite surface, wherein at least a portion of the composite surface contacts the switch and wherein the composite surface defines a composite coordinate function, which composite coordinate function varies with the relative position of the first and second rigid bodies within the allowed range of motion; the apparatus may be in a first state, a second state and a third state; wherein when the apparatus is in the first state, movement of bodies relative to one another beyond a first point of no return causes a first event, which first event transitions the machine from the first state to the second state; when the apparatus is in the second state, movement of the bodies relative to one another beyond a second point of no return causes a second event, which second event transitions the machine from the second state to the third state; and when the apparatus is in the third state, movement of the bodies relative to one another beyond a third point of no return causes a third event, which third event transitions the machine from the third state to the first state. |
