The present invention relates to a method for preparing paraxylene and propylene by methanol and/or dimethyl ether. The method comprises coupling two reaction processes, i.e. the aromatization reaction of methanol and/or dimethyl ether, and the alkylation reaction of ethylene and methanol and/or dimethyl ether.In the present method, paraxylene and propylene are produced with high selectivity by returning the component which is rich in ethylene in the by-product of the reaction for preparing paraxylene by methanol and/or dimethyl ether to the reaction system to perform the alkylation reaction with methanol and/or dimethyl ether under a catalyst.
