A polyester fiber was spinned in a state of an undrawing yarn, and drawn by a warper draw to give an industrial polyester fiber having a heat shrinkage of less than 2.5 % (190 deg.C X 15 min) of dry heat shrinkage compare to the existing high speed spinning process. A polymer, having polyethylene terephthalate repeat unit more than 90 mole %, an inherent viscosity of more than 0.75, was spinned in the volosity of 500-800 mpm to give an undrawing yarn. This yarn was primarily drawn at 80-120 deg.C, a drawing magnification of 3.5-4.5 by warper draw, and secondarily drawn at 100-160 deg.C, a drawing magnification of 1.3-1.7, thereafter heat treated at more than 250 deg.C, and relaxed.
