<p>A cover 41 which is movable between a retracted position (fig 5) in which the vehicle load space 21 is uncovered and a deployed position in which the vehicle load space 21 is at least partially covered. The device comprises means, preferably an autodetect strip 81 on the leading edge 55 of cover 41, for detecting an object in the path of the cover. The detecting means may be one or more of: mechanical switches, electrical contacts, capacitive sensors, optical and sonic sensors. The autodetect strp 81 may be in a pull bar 57 of the cover 41. The cover 41 is preferably driven by couplings 61R, 61L, guide rails 65, and motor 69. Control means may control the motor 69 based on the detection of objects in the path of the cover 41.</p> |
