<p>A welding apparatus 10 comprises a welding tool 105 and a welding tool controller 102 implemented on a non time deterministic software platform and coupled to a user interface 101 arranged to receive and display weld data, wherein the data is sent from the tool to the controller in blocks which are stored in a buffer (302, figure 3) by the controller before being sent to the user interface for display, the controller being arranged in operation so that on receipt of a data block an average rate of receipt of data blocks is determined (303), if the average rate of receipt exceeds a predetermined minimum by an overrun an accumulated ratio is increased by a ratio dependent upon the overrun and the predetermined minimum, if the accumulated ratio exceeds one said data block is discarded (307) and the accumulated ratio is reset and if the average rate of receipt does not exceed said predetermined minimum said data block is stored in the buffer (302) prior to sending to the user interface for display. Also disclosed is a method of controlling the welding apparatus of the invention.</p> |
