1. An electrochemical cell system comprising:
at least one fuel cell layer comprising at least one fuel cell having an anode and a cathode; a first fluid manifold fluidly coupled to the at least one fuel cell layer to distribute a fuel to the anode of the at least one fuel cell; a second fluid manifold fluidly connecting to the first fluid manifold and to an outlet fluidly connected to a fuel storage containing said fuel, wherein the second fluid manifold is substantially flat and comprises a plurality of layers, including at least one conduit layer positioned between an upper barrier layer and a lower barrier layer, wherein the barrier layers are substantially impermeable to said fuel, and the at least one conduit layer comprises at least one conduit extending through the at least one conduit layer, wherein said fuel flows from the fuel storage through the second fluid manifold through the first fluid manifold and to the at least one fuel cell layer, wherein the barrier layers comprise at least a first and a second hole in fluid communication with said at least one conduit in the conduit layer to form an inlet port and an outlet port, wherein the outlet port of the second fluid manifold is fluidly connected to the first fluid manifold, and the inlet port of the second fluid manifold is fluidly connected to said outlet fluidly connected to the fuel storage, wherein a portion of the barrier layer proximate the inlet port of the second fluid manifold is attached as a substantially planar interface to said outlet fluidly connected to the fuel storage. |
