PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small liquid crystal device having good color balance and good balance in the use efficiency of light, to display a full-color projection image showing mixed colors in a pixel without showing a mosaic pattern, and to prevent the deterioration in brightness or chromaticity even when a disturbance in alignment is caused. SOLUTION: The shape or size of pixel electrodes 26r, 26g, 26b of the respective colors or their openings are made different for the colors and at least for one color. Moreover, first color pixels and second color pixels 26b having a different color from the color of the first pixels are alternately arranged in a first direction based on the first pixel 26g at a first arrangement interval. In a second direction different from the first direction based on the first color pixels, the first color pixels and third color pixels 26r having a different color from that of the first pixels are alternately arranged at a second arrangement interval. Lenses which constitute a microlens 22 are arranged in the first and second directions at the arrangement intervals twice as those of the respective first and second intervals. Further, the microlens is disposed in such a manner that the optical axis of the lens to form a condensed light spot 35 is not coincident with the gravity center of the pixel where the condensed light spot is formed. |
