A method of generating optimized memory instances using a memory compiler, the method comprising: providing data pertinent to describing a memory to be designed; making front-end models and back-end models to supply a library; receiving design criteria via a user interface; and optimizing design of the memory among speed, power and area according to the provided library and the received design criteria, thereby generating memory instances; wherein the design criteria comprise priority ranking among speed, power and area; wherein the step of optimization comprises: formulating rules that govern speed, power, and area of the memory to be designed according to the priority ranking and specification requirement;selecting a pertinent portion of the provided library according to the priority ranking and specification requirement;decomposing the memory to be designed into a plurality of building blocks;retrieving at least one high-speed library, at least one low-power library and at least one small-area library from the provided library for the decomposed blocks;modifying parameters of devices of the blocks;assembling the formed blocks to result in the memory; andsubjecting the assembled memory to simulation.
