An ignition apparatus comprising: an ignition plug that is provided with a first electrode and a second electrode facing each other through a gap and produces a spark discharge in the gap so that an inflammable fuel-air mixture inside a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine is ignited; a first coil device that generates a predetermined high voltage and supplies the generated predetermined high voltage to the first electrode so as to form a path of the spark discharge in the gap; and a second coil device that supplies a current to the spark discharge path formed in the gap, wherein the first coil device includes a primary coil and a secondary coil that are magnetically coupled with each other; the second coil device includes a primary coil and a secondary coil that are magnetically coupled with each other; and the secondary coil of the first coil device supplies the predetermined high voltage to the first electrode of the ignition plug by way of the secondary coil of the second coil device.
