An exhaust purification apparatus comprising: a purification duct configured to purify air to be discharged from a ventilation port in an image forming apparatus, the purification duct including: at least one inlet communicating with an interior of the purification duct for connection with the ventilation port in the image forming apparatus;an outlet configured to discharge air inside the purification duct to the outside;a fan configured to direct air from the inlet toward the outlet;a filter configured to recover particles in the air, the fan and the filter each being disposed in the purification duct at a position between the inlet and the outlet;an airflow detector configured to detect an airflow at the inlet; anda controller configured to execute a normal mode and an attachment determination mode, the normal mode being adapted such that the fan is driven with the inlet being in connection with the ventilation port in the image forming apparatus, to purify an exhaust from the ventilation port in the image forming apparatus, the attachment determination mode being adapted such that a determination is made as to whether the ventilation port in the image forming apparatus being in connection with the inlet is a ventilation port for discharging air, based on the airflow detected by the airflow detector, wherein the controller is configured to perform a disabling control to disable the connection of the inlet with the ventilation port in the image forming apparatus, the inlet having been determined in the attachment determination mode as being in connection with the ventilation port other than the ventilation port for discharging air in the image forming apparatus, and the controller is configured to execute the normal mode in presence of the inlet having a non-disabled connection.
