PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of excellently maintaining the chromaticity of a display image since it is unnecessary to physically provide a transparent window for transmitting infrared rays to a transparent substrate constituting a display panel and maintaining the resolution of the display image since it is unnecessary to form an infrared ray emission part and an infrared ray receiving part in the display panel.SOLUTION: An LCD as a display device comprises: a liquid crystal display panel 2 having a plurality of liquid crystal unit elements capable of switch-controlling transmission and non-transmission of infrared rays; a back light device 4 placed on the side opposite to the display surface; an infrared ray emitting element 6a placed in the back light device 4 and emitting the infrared rays on the side of the liquid crystal display panel 2; and an infrared ray photo detector 6b for receiving the infrared rays reflected by a body 10 to be detected approaching the display surface of the liquid crystal display panel 2. An infrared-ray transmission region 2c transmitting the infrared rays to the crystal display panel 2 is formed, and a position of the body 10 to be detected is specified by scanning the infrared-ray transmission region 2c. |
