The present invention relates to a Citrus grandis Osbeck extract having skin whitening effects, and to a cosmetic composition for skin whitening, containing the extract as an active ingredient. According to the present invention, the Citrus grandis Osbeck extract not only effectively suppresses melanin production by inhibiting activities of tyrosinase which is an essential enzyme involving in a melanin production mechanism, but also shows no cytotoxicity in an application on skin by containing natural ingredients. Furthermore, the composition exhibits excellent skin whitening effects even when adding the composition into a cosmetic base as the active ingredient, thereby being useful as a natural cosmetic composition for skin whitening.
