PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mitigate time and labor caused in performing multi-stage connection of relay devices in an office.SOLUTION: A relay device for relaying communication between the upstream side on which an external network is located and the downstream side on which a communication device is located comprises: a setting unit for setting the relay device as a master relay device or a slave relay device on the basis of information received from another device; and a relay unit for relaying communication performed between the external network located on the upstream side and a slave relay device located downstream of the relay device when the relay device is a master relay device, and relaying communication performed between a communication device belonging to the relay device and a master relay device when the relay device is a slave relay device.
