PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly set brightness of a projection image to desired brightness of a user when reducing a drive power of a lamp in an image projection device using a lamp requested to take a prescribed time to gradually reduce the drive power.SOLUTION: An image projection device comprises: a high pressure mercury lamp 4a that radiates light; a lamp power control unit 21 and a lamp drive unit 30 that control a light source so as to take a prescribed time to drive the high pressure mercury lamp 4a at the setting power when changing a power driving the high pressure mercury 4a to a setting power lower than a specified power value from the specified power value; an image formation unit 40 that forms an image on the basis of light from the high pressure mercury lamp 4a; and a luminance control unit 23 and an image display element control unit 22 that control the image formation unit 40 so that luminance of a projection image is luminance after driven at the setting power when the change from the specified power value to the setting power is instructed.
