PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical unit that can improve the light-resistance life of a liquid crystal panel, and a projection type display device including the optical unit.SOLUTION: An optical unit 1200A includes: liquid light valves 1210, 1220, and 1230 that include a liquid crystal panel that modulates incident light on the basis of video information, and a liquid crystal cell 1140 that is arranged on a light path of the incident light to the liquid crystal light valves 1210, 1220, and 1230. A projection type display device 1000 includes an illumination device 1100 as a light source, the optical unit 1200A, and a cross dichroic prism 1206 and a projection lens 1207 as a projection optical system. |
