PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of and an apparatus each of which enables foreign matter to be removed from the outer circumferential surface of a mill roll in a rolling mill or to be prevented from adhering to the outer circumferential surface without changing the profile of the outer circumferential surface of the mill roll.SOLUTION: A method for polishing a mill roll 2 is provided, which is the method for removing foreign matter from the cylindrical outer circumferential surface of a mill roll or for preventing the adhesion of the foreign matter to the surface by polishing the outer circumferential surface. The method comprises rotating the mill roll 2 around the central axis of the outer circumferential surface 3 of the mill roll 2, and polishing the outer circumferential surface 3 by bringing polishing material 4 into contact with the outer circumferential surface 3 of the rotating mill roll 2. The method uses the polishing material 4 that includes a nonwoven cloth including polyamide fiber, the hardened material of thermosetting resin impregnated in the nonwoven cloth, and a filler dispersed in the hardened material and including at least one of silicon carbide and aluminum oxide. |
