PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer device capable of suppressing the occurrence of transfer failure in superposition bias transfer and to provide an image forming apparatus including the transfer device.SOLUTION: The transfer device including a nip forming member 24 which comes into contact with an image carrier 10, to form a transfer nip, a transfer bias power supply 309 in which a DC power supply and an AC power supply are electrically connected and which outputs a transfer bias, and contact/separation means 600 which contacts/separates the image carrier with/from the nip forming member includes control means 400 which controls the contact/separation means, so that a separation amount between the image carrier and the nip forming member in the superposition bias transfer for outputting a superposition bias obtained by superimposing a DC voltage on an AC voltage as the transfer bias to perform transfer is larger than that in DC bias transfer for outputting a DC bias as the transfer bias to perform the transfer. |
