PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power converter, etc., capable of appropriately performing maximum power point tracking control of photovoltaic power generation on the basis of a state of electric power supply and demand, and a method for controlling the same.SOLUTION: The power converter capable of performing maximum power point tracking control by varying a step size of tracking control to the output of a photovoltaic power generation panel comprises: a converter for converting the output of the photovoltaic power generation panel into DC/DC to output the converted DC to a DC bus; a voltage sensor for detecting the voltage of the DC bus; a controller for relatively setting a step size large when the voltage of the DC bus detected by the voltage sensor is lower than a predetermined threshold voltage and relatively setting the step size small when the voltage of the DC bus is higher than the threshold voltage, when the maximum power point tracking control is performed.
