PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detecting device capable of having a wide detection range when detecting a position of a movable object.SOLUTION: A position detecting device 2 comprises: a first exciting coil 3; three specific range detecting coils of a first specific range detecting coil 4a to a third specific range detection coil 4c that have detection ranges of 72°; two absolute position detecting coils of a first absolute position detecting coil 9a and a second absolute position detecting coil 9b that are needed to detect an absolute angle; a second exciting coil 10 for exciting the absolute position detecting coils 9; and a magnetic field varying part 11 for varying magnetic fields applied to the absolute position detecting coils 9. The combination of outputs of the two absolute position detecting coils 9 is set so as to be different for each cycle of 72° represented as the cycle of the angle detection of the specific range detecting coils 4. The position detecting device 2 detects the angle of the metallic rotor 5 having a range of 0-360° on the basis of outputs of the specific range detecting coils 4 and outputs of the absolute position detecting coils 9. |
