PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detecting device capable of having a wide detection range when detecting a position of a movable object.SOLUTION: A position detection device 2 comprises: an exciting coil 3; three specific range detecting coils of a first specific range detecting coil 4a to a third specific range detecting coil 4c, each of which is capable of detecting the angle of a metallic rotor 5 in a cycle of 72°; two absolute position detecting coils of a first absolute position detecting coil 9a and a second absolute position detecting coil 9b that are needed to detect an absolute angle of the metallic rotor 5; and a conductivity varying part 10 for varying magnetic fields applied to the absolute position detecting coils. The combination of outputs of the first absolute position detecting coil 9a and the second absolute position detecting coil 9b is set so as to be different for each cycle of 72° represented as the cycle of the angle detection of the specific range detecting coils 4. The position detecting device 2 detects the angle of the metallic rotor having a range of 0-360° on the basis of outputs of the specific range detecting coils 4 and outputs of the absolute position detecting coils 9. |
