The invention relates to a method for eliminating metal ions from a viscous organic solution having a viscosity of between 1 and 1000 cP at 20°C. The method includes steps consisting in: disposing a macroporous ion exchange resin in a column, said resin comprising at least one carboxylic type acid resin based on a copolymer having active groups in carboxylic form (CO2H); and subsequently passing the viscous organic solution continuously over the ion exchange resin.
